A body is said to be in a motion if it is not in a present state of rest. The energy possessed by this body by virtue of its motion is called Kinetic Energy.
Remember that a body will remain in its state of rest unless there is an external force that act on the body.
The external force must be greater than the force keeping the body at rest(INERTIA FORCE). The force keeping a body at rest or in uniform motion is called Force of Inertia. Thus external force must be greater than inertia force for a motion to set in.
In this class we will be discussing a motion of body on a straight path which is called a Rectilinear Motion.
